The weights above are quoted in the old Imperial system, showing hundredweights (cwts) - quarters (qtrs) - pounds (lbs).
The medieval 5th bell of the old six, cast at Bury St Edmunds circa 1450, bears the Latin inscription:
“May He Who Reigns there, Three and One, give the reward of Heaven.”
This bell rested for many years in the North Chapel. In 1993 it was repaired and hung in the tower for use as a Sanctus Bell.
The bell made by John Darbie in 1677 was given by a local benefactor Thomas Allen.
Here is an extract from the Parish Register of September 6th 1691:
"Thomas Allen was buried, he was born at Stenning, in Sussex, in his old age he sojourned in this parish.
To the ring of 4 bells he added a treble.
He bought Emmanuel College pulpit and set it up in this Church.
He settled three pound a year for ever for the putting out poor children to Apprenticeship."
